Grease-2

From August to November, I have been involved with the play at school, Grease. The performances were on the 8,9 and 10^th of November. In this play, I played the role of a dancer, and participating in this play I intended to know more about how people used to act, dance and how they were dressed in the 1970’s. I had a really good time experiencing a little bit the life of a teenager in the 1970’s. Overall the play made me not only learn it but live it. The play is finally over and here are some pictures of how my friends and I dressed for the play:

Dancing Lessons

Since next semester, I will no longer be helping in the Homework Club, my friend and I would like to start something new with the primary children. We were thinking about doing at once a month, or twice a month, during lunch give dance lessons to the primary kids. We would choose a song, design choreography, and at the lunchtime show it and teach to the children interested. I have already talked to the head of primary, Mr. Mcdurmad, and he believes it is a great idea and that when we come back from vacation I can schedule it right with him. With those dancing lessons, my aim is to put my leadership skill in practice by controlling many children at lunchtime. So I will know if I my leadership is being good enough, if the kids pay enough attention to me and properly learn the dance of the lesson. 

Homework Club

Every Thursday, from 15h50 t0 16h40, I have been helping in the Homework Club, a after school activity, the primary students. My first intention when I started doing this ECA (after school activity), was to improve my patience with younger with children. I am a very impatient person, and I thought that by helping them with their homework I had to put my patience to work while I helped them. And so far I think helping those kids do their homework really helped me, because it was not only a teaching and improving my patience activity, it was also a time in which I learned new things with kids. For example, while I would help them practice their spelling words, if I didn’t know how to pronounce it properly they would help me and I would learn something new. While talking to the kids, I would learn more about their different cultures and while helping them remind myself of things I studied a long time ago. So it would be a mutual learning every week. Today was my penultimate participation in the Homework Club, and I am already missing the kids that became a part of my life for a semester. 

Millennium Development Goals

Last month some y11 and y12 students were chosen to be the “leaders” responsible to transmit to the younger students of Secondary Y7, Y8, Y9 and Y10, what are the aims and what are the Millennium development goals. The “leaders” were divided into partners, and each pair was responsible for one class. Also the Millennium goals were divided in the year groups, so each year will have a deeper knowledge about two of the goals, of the eight from the Millennium Goals.

Each month the leaders, will be going to the class tutorial and will be teaching them what are the Millennium Goals, why they were created and which one they will be learning in deeper context. Since I am one of the leaders, last month it was my pairs first meeting with the Y7 students that we are responsible to teach. In this meeting we taught them what were the Millennium goals and why were they created, and we also made the students start thinking what could be solutions for the problems in the world and why did they think those eight specific goals were created. During this class, the students were very obedient and they were very participative which made the class more enjoyable and easier to get through. The students seemed very interested, and in the end of the class they had to write a reflection and a drawing about what they learned, it was very interesting with which drawings they came and their reflections, it showed they were really into the topic. I have really liked the experience of teaching a younger grade so far and I am looking forward to the next meeting. 

PARTICIPATION ON "GREASE"

Every Monday and Saturday from the past 2 months, August and September I have been attending the play rehearsal. The school play for this semester is going to be “Grease” and I decide to participate in this play to learn how girls used to act back in the 1980’s. Therefore, I did the auditions and I got the dancer role. For me getting the dancer role was kind of a relief, because I have been dancing ballet and jazz for 7 years of my life, while I am not that good in acting. The play will be on 8,9 and 10th of November and in one of the days the play would be performed twice. Overall there is going to be 4 performances. Until the actual day arrives, the rehearsal, are every Monday afternoon and Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. The rehearsals so far have been good, I have been learning a lot how girls used to dance, stand, and act back on that time which was my main goal. 

ECA- PLAN + REFLECTION

My first idea for a project for CAS was to help younger children from Primary School with their homework, in an after school activity (ECA). The first step to accomplish my idea, was to ask my CAS coordinator if it was a good project and if it was accepted. When accepted, in the first week of school I talked to the Head of Primary, Mr. Mcdermott, if there was any type of ECA like this already happening in school and if I could help, he said I could help and that he has been running this homework ECA every Thursday from 3h45 to 4h35 to eight children in the primary. Therefore, since Thursday 16th of August I have been helping in this ECA. My aim while doing this project is to increase my patience, that’s quite small, dealing with kids that are going to be needing my help and I will need to be able to help with as much patience as I can.

Today, Thursday 30th of August, has been the third week that I have gone to help in this ECA, and so far everything is going great. Many of the kids are becoming less shy to talk to me and ask me questions, and I’m being able to practice my patience skills with them while explaining something that for me it’s obvious but for them it is not.
